Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

Ofgem’s enforcement powers are essential tools in protecting the rights of energy consumers. We work closely with participants in the energy marketplace to encourage a culture where businesses put energy consumers first and act in line with their obligations. However, when appropriate, we will use our enforcement powers, and in 2017-18 we secured over £15 million in compensation to affected consumers or redress payments.

We now have opportunities for talented, analytical thinkers to play a key part in enforcement casework and policy work. You’ll work with both qualitative and quantitative evidence, drawing on a mix of economic, financial and fact/case-specific material. You’ll also monitor media and industry data to identify any potential enforcement issues and liaise with companies under inspection.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be able to communicate well, including producing high quality written material. Strong analytical abilities and a keen eye for detail are both essential, and it’s important that you can manage your time well to meet challenging deadlines and competing priorities. You’ll be part of a team of around 30 individuals, so it’s essential that you can work well in a team environment, contributing to shared objectives and high quality performance. We also expect that you will degree qualified, or hold an equivalent professional qualification.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days’ annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
  • On site Restaurant (London only)
  • Subsidised Gym (London only)
  • Interest free season ticket loan.
