Job Details

The role

Acting in the public interest, Investigation Officers (IOs) are at the forefront of assessing and investigating reports about misconduct.

Desk based IOs have responsibility for identifying and assessing risk. They focus on the most serious issues and manage a caseload of varying complexity, across a multitude of legal areas. Delivering a positive customer experience throughout the process, IOs regularly update the subject and complainant about the progress of the investigation.

Owning and managing a workload, IOs collate and analyse detailed information to get to the heart of the matter and make decisions on what action needs to be taken. That could be constructive engagement over the telephone, or, taking more formal enforcement action.

What's in it for you?

  • Protect the Public and enforce high professional standards by engaging with regulated firms and individuals as well as members of the Public
  • Showcase your customer service skills, delivering quality work to deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of our organisation such as the Legal and Enforcement, Authorisation, Intelligence and Forensic Investigation teams
  • Attend an intensive, structured induction programme with dedicated one-to-one support and guidance throughout your probation period
  • A rolling in-depth training program where you can develop and refine your analysis and investigation skills
  • Variety of case holding. No one case is the same.

If you are legally qualified, working within the profession and looking for a change or further career prospects, you will enjoy the responsibility of making decisions relating to the outcomes of cases. In addition, you can use your legal expertise to give advice and support to colleagues. You will get to develop your application of the law further, as well as develop your understanding of our enforcement strategy and our new standards and regulations.

What we’re looking for

  • Considerable, practical and comparable experience of managing complex cases or undertaking complex investigations, leading to proportionate outcomes
