Job Details

We are seeking a Risk Manager for two diverse and progressive London boroughs. Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we’re not just home to the UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. At Islington our key aim is to make Islington a fairer place as outlined in our corporate plan ‘Building a Fairer Islington’.

The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and proficient Risk Manager to deliver the corporate risk management function across Camden and Islington. This is a hugely exciting role. You will have the opportunity to work across two London boroughs alongside the Head of Internal Audit, Investigations and Risk Management and play a key role in shaping the approach to risk management across both Councils.

The approach to risk management is well established at each Council, and risk management is seen as an integral part of overall governance. The Risk Management Framework supports each Council to understand the barriers to their objectives and to pro-actively manage and communicate the risks associated with their objectives.

The role offers the opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking individual to further shape the risk management framework and continue to embed the proactive risk culture. You will lead the development, reporting and monitoring of the corporate risk strategy and linked processes to further embed the formal management of risk. You will be able to work using your own initiative and will possess sufficient knowledge to enable delivery and enhancement of the risk management agenda.

This is a high profile and varied role that will allow you to engage closely with colleagues from across the Councils, including partnership working with Internal Audit and Investigations, contributing to the overall governance and control environment.

The outgoing Risk Manager has shared the following words about the role:

‘Camden and Islington are vibrant and agile Councils, both sharing a passion to deliver on their commitments to residents. This passion to succeed is matched with a drive to innovate. The Risk Manager role is varied and fast-paced, providing an excellent opportunity to work alongside the leadership to shape the approach to Risk Management, playing an active role in helping each Council deliver their strategy. This role requires you to have the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders at all different levels of the organisation. If you are passionate about risk and want to join an environment where you can make a real difference, this role might be the opportunity you are looking for’.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate strong risk management experience and will ideally be working within a risk management role. You will possess a good understanding of risk management frameworks and will either hold membership of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) or will be currently studying towards attaining a risk management qualification.

You will ideally also have a solid understanding of programme and project management and organisational transformation.

The successful applicant will be adaptable and have excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels within the Council.

This high-profile role affords regular exposure to senior officers and Councillors. As the position requires regular liaison with a varied number of directorates across the both Councils, including delivery of risk workshops and training, applicants should possess excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to promote a proactive risk culture.

In return, we offer a competitive salary and an excellent work environment. Other benefits include a local government pension and flexible working.

We’re ready to welcome your ideas, your views, and your rebellious spirit. Help us redefine our corporate services, and we’ll redefine what a career can be.
