About Wealthy & Mid-Sized Business Compliance (WMBC)

Wealthy and Mid-sized Business Compliance (WMBC) is responsible for the tax affairs of customer groups including the UK's wealthiest individuals, mid-sized businesses, public bodies and charities as well as specific tax regimes such as Inheritance Tax and Research and Development tax reliefs.

As a Compliance support officer, you will be assisting Compliance Caseworkers to carry out tax investigations into taxpayers' records, to identify and address any irregularities or non-compliant behaviour

Job description

You will undertake a key role in supporting Compliance Caseworkers to carry out their day to day duties, which will include the investigation of offences against the tax systems.

Under the direction of Compliance Caseworkers, you will provide a wide range of admin support duties including accessing relevant IT systems to collate information or data. In some instances, you will be required to work collaboratively with support staff colleagues to deliver a specific task or activity.

Responsibilities

You don't need any existing knowledge or experience of tax in order to apply, but you'll have an interest in admin support and have the following qualities:

  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal, enabling you to effectively document and communicate outcomes.
  • Focused - able to follow processes and guidance ensuring quality standards are adhered to.
  • Eager to learn - capable of developing the required level of skills to enable you to successfully perform your role.
  • Team player - able to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Maths and English qualifications:

  • Until 1985, grade C or above on the Scottish Certificate of Education
  • In or after 1986 grade 3 or above on the Standard Grade Scottish Certificate of Education
  • From 2000, grade A*-C on the Scottish Qualification Certificate Intermediate2 From 2015, grade A*-C on the Scottish Qualification Certificate National5
  • GCSE Maths and English Level 4 or grade C or above or CSE level 1 or O level C.

Or equivalent.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
